John’s career in communication arts began with his passion for design and music at Rolling Stone Magazine, where he served as an art director alongside photographer Annie Leibovitz. Transitioning to advertising, he worked with renowned brands like Coca-Cola, Intel, Volvo, Coppertone, and Claritin, setting a high standard for creative excellence early in his career.
At IfThen, as the SVP of Digital Healthcare Solutions, John applied his 15 years of health and wellness experience to build a successful digital healthcare services department. His expertise spans from impactful content design to strategic digital marketing. John's leadership in complex projects and his knack for combining content development, user experience, brand strategy, and creative solutions have significantly contributed to IfThen’s organizational success.
In his role as Executive Creative Director of Digital Marketing at Havas Tonic, one of North America’s largest consumer health and wellness agencies, John combined his design and multi-channel expertise to lead the digital integration and marketing division. He’s created groundbreaking, award-winning campaigns for several brands within GSK’s Respiratory and HIV Treatment portfolios. John constantly seeks innovative digital tactics, such as pioneering the use of Google’s Director Mix media units for a Pharma brand.
John has a stellar record in new business development within the health and wellness industry, bringing in major clients like Zicam Cold Remedy, Pataday Eye Allergy Drops (a DTC to OTC switch), Vascepa, UCB’s Bimzelx, ViiV Healthcare’s Apretude, and Sanofi’s Efanesoctocog alfa for hemophilia. Prior to Tonic, John headed Intel B2B and for Volvo, launched several models including the XC90 V8 with a Super Bowl commercial.
Before Havas, John served as SVP Group Creative Director at McCann-Erickson on the Coca-Cola account, overseeing domestic and international creative, including Olympic and World Cup sponsorships and numerous product launches. His earlier roles included positions at Wells Rich Greene and JWT.
John attributes his advertising success to his background as a designer and filmmaker, having worked on network graphic identity and movie trailers for ABC, HBO, and Paramount Pictures while at The Image Factory.
Beyond his professional achievements, John is a passionate advocate for creative integration, teaching a course on the subject at The School of Visual Arts in NYC. As an adjunct professor, he lectures regularly and actively participates in creative internship programs, mentoring and hiring many of his students.
Brands are increasingly less focused on selling and more interested in making a positive impact on society. Always looking to inspire and stay ahead of the curve, John created a live video webcast about this trending subject and how purpose-driven brands are leading the charge and making a difference.
